I love, love, love this sexy legs shaving set I’ve been using! It’s made by a great cruelty-free company called Posh in Clover.

Sexy Legs Shaving Kit

Sexy Legs Shaving Kit

I never even considered using anything other than Skintimate or Aveeno to shave my legs, but this new Sexy Legs Pink Grapefruit Shaving Bar caught my eye.  It’s made with shea butter, macadamia nut oil, sunflower see oil, pink clay, oatmeal flour and essential oils.  No parabens, mineral oils, SLS, petroleum or artificial colors.  It works just as well as my beloved Aveeno, and is SO much better for the environment.  I also like that rubbing it on my legs stimulates circulation and gives me a nice massage (my poor legs are usually so neglected!).

Prosilk Gold Flat Iron

I used my new 1″ Prosilk Gold flat iron today.  I have fine, wavy hair, and I don’t usually straighten it, but I decided to try it out to see how it looked.  This professional iron is nice because it has multiple heat settings.  It can heat up to 435 degrees, but that would kill my fragile hair, so I set it at around 300 degrees.  (The higher temps are great for thick hair.)

I was visiting a friend in the NYC area recently, and we decided to go to a Brooklyn craft fair. There was a ton of great stuff, but I got really excited when I saw a natural beauty product booth.

G.I. Jamie Body Bar

G.I. Jamie Body Bar

The pretty lady making the goodies was named Nordea and she gave me some samples to try. I tried little bits of her Peach Chutney body bar and G.I. Jamie body bar – both wonderful, natural soaps. My fave was G.I. Jamie – a blend of amber, cedarwood and oakmoss (I always dig the earthy scents).

She also gave me a sample of her Lavender Splash Perfume Oil.

Aromafloria Double Action Foot Scrub

Aromafloria Double Action Foot Scrub

Even though I’ve given many pedicures throughout my career, when it comes to taking care of my own feet, I prefer to do it myself. Sure, it’s not quite as relaxing as having someone else pamper me, but paying for something I can do myself just seems a little wasteful. I’m always trying new products to see what gives the best results.

My new favorite is Aromafloria Double Action Foot Scrub. It’s a sugar scrub, and when it comes to foot scrubs, I will always recommend a natural salt or sugar scrub. They have large granules to exfoliate the tough skin and calluses, but they dissolve easily, and the oils they’re mixed with leave you with smooth, soft, beautiful feet.

This one has certified organic cane sugar, and the delightful essential oils are certified organic tea tree, peppermint, spearmint, rosemary, and eucalyptus. Perfectly blended aromas is what Aromafloria is famous for. And it’s what sets this product apart from the other foot scrubs on the market.

Top Secret!

logo

I love finding small businesses that sell GREAT products, and I could keep this secret all to myself, but luckily I don’t think they’re going to run out of soap anytime soon, so I’ll share with you!  The secret is a small family business from Texas called A Wild Soap Bar.  They make and sell completely natural soaps – for your body, your laundry and even your teeth!

I was lucky enough to try three of their wonderful soaps – horsemint, sea scrub and wildflower.  The packaging alone is fabulous and what’s inside is even better.

From a post on Mother Nature Network by Plentymag.com:

iStock_000002118001XSmallThe Environmental Working Group (EWG)  has tested 7,500 beauty products and found that 80 percent of them contained 146 chemicals linked to cancer.

In this country, “12.2 million adults — One of every 13 women and one of every 23 men — are exposed to ingredients that are known or probable human carcinogens every day through their use of personal care products,” EWG says.

Pevonia LogoA

According to the National Rosacea Society (NRS), over 14 million Americans have rosacea and don’t even know it!  According to NRS, Rosacea can manifest as:

  • Redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead
  • Small visible blood vessels on the face
  • Bumps or pimples on the face
  • Watery or irritated eyes

I have had mild rosacea for as long as I can remember – it seems to be a lot better now than when I was a teenager, but I still get a little redness on my cheeks that occasionally makes me think twice about putting on blush.

r-rs2-care-cream-dI also have very fair skin that blushes easily and is very reactive to weather, skin care products, alcohol, etc.  So, that being said, I was very excited to try Pevonia Botanica’s RS2 line, which is for sensitive or rosacea-prone skin.

I tried the cleanser, lotion (really a moisturizing toner), RS2 Care Cream (moisturizer), makeup remover and the RS2 Concentrate (serum).

SIRCUIT-SKIN-IMMACULATE-MIST

Sircuit Skin Immaculate Mist

After loving the last Sircuit Skin product I tried, I thought I’d try another designed for acne-prone, oily skin, Sircuit Skin Immaculate Mist. It’s what they call a “moisturizing mist.” But to me, it felt much more like a toner (though not as drying).

Yes, it feels good to apply it on a hot day, but it didn’t give me the light moisture I was hoping for (since that’s what it claimed to give). Spraying it on isn’t really the most effective method either, especially if you want to feel like the product is working. I ended up spraying it on a cotton pad and wiping it all over my face for more complete coverage.

What makes it more like a toner and less like a moisturizer is not only its liquid formula, but also its astringent ingredient witch hazel. It may not be as drying as alcohol, but it’s definitely not moisturizing.

eye-tea

My best girlfriend and I tried out Tracy Stern SALONTEA Eye Tea bags. Basically, these are large tea bags filled with organic chamomile, angelica root and witch hazel. They are designed to soothe tired eyes and reduce swelling. As my friend and I had recently over-imbibed in some, shall we say… adult beverages…and were both suffering from seasonal allergies, we needed all the relief we could get.
